Hillsboro

Hillsboro is cathartic - fusing the swirling sounds of early 90’s shoegaze with an infectious rhythm section, haunting violin, and plaintive vocals from frontman Nima Walker, the group strikes a delicate balance between something nostalgic and something wholly its own. Hillsboro’s self-titled debut LP (2023) brandishes a dark pop which encourages listeners to indulge their everyday angst - receiving critical acclaim from the likes of Exclaim!, Under the Radar, and Cups & Cakes Network.

White Trash (released August 2024) offers Hillsboro’s most organic endeavour at recording yet. With Walker’s bandmates being solidified over the past year of writing and touring, a quick, raw recording style was more in reach than it has ever been. On White Trash, Walker welcomes audiences once more to the dark navigations of his adolescence, this time uncovering more of his tendencies of self-destruction and self-resentment. While White Trash lacks the optimism that silver-lines HILLSBORO, it compensates with ceaseless energy and spotless production, self-recorded in Victoria, BC. Hillsboro’s next project, A Party In Your Name, is scheduled for release in 2026.

Above all, Hillsboro offers a way out, the sound of dodging trouble by the skin of your teeth and a direct response to present-day anxiety. Walker’s entire creative ethos centers around unapologetic vulnerability. Hillsboro creates a world in which fear and shame are excavated in an ecstatic fever, building a community which doesn’t hide its pain but is instead keen to share and destroy it.
